hEARt Listens is a nonprofit organization that connects students who want to talk with students who want to listen.

Why?

Early on in their college careers, hEARt Listens’ founders realized that students on their campus were struggling. They did some digging, and through research, interviews, and surveys, they found that…

  • 86% felt overwhelmed

  • 73% felt anxious

  • 86% felt exhausted

  • 77% felt stressed

Our founders realized that students were looking for mental health resources to meet 3 specific needs:

  • They wanted a someone that would “give them the floor”, or just listen

  • Students wanted to find a way to be there for one another

  • Students wanted to learn to prioritize their own well-being while helping others

How?

Our team developed the hEARt Line - an anonymous text line for students facing mental health challenges. Students text the hEARt Line and tell us what they want to talk about. We then connect them with a student hEARt Supporter who can provide emotional support. The hEARt Line combines peer support and SMS to create an easily accessible resource that meets students’ needs.
